How To Use Your iPhone Camera To Scan A Document

If you’ve been using an iPhone for a couple of years now, you may have downloaded different apps to scan a document. But with the latest iOS 11, you don’t have to look for any other document scanner app. You can do it in a snap!

How do you use your iPhone camera to scan a document? You can scan a document using the Notes app on your iPhone. With just a couple of taps, you’ll get a scanned document ready to mark up and convert to PDF. Since it supports in-app sharing, you can store the newly scanned document anywhere you want or share it with another app.

Apple has been surprising us with new and improved features every time they update their iOS. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to scan a document using the Notes app in iOS 11.

Scan a Document Using the Notes App

Ah! Another perk of updating your iPhone to iOS 11 is getting the document scanner you’ll ever need, ever again! And it’s within the app you’ve been using ever since you fell in love with Apple devices – the Notes app! So, how do you do it?

You can now scan any document using the Notes app!

Step 1: Launch the Notes app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Create a New Note.

Step 3: Tap the (+) symbol just above the keyboard.

Step 4: Tap the option Scan Document from the list.

Step 5: Line up the document you plan to scan.

Step 6: If the scanner doesn’t automatically scan, use the shutter button or one of the volume buttons to capture the scan.

Step 7: If needed, you can adjust the corners of the scan by dragging it. Afterwards, tap Keep Scan.

Step 8: Once you’re satisfied with your scan, tap on Save or continue to add more pages.

This new feature of the Notes app works nicely for any size document but is especially handy for large documents. Scanning large files can be a bit goofy to scan even with a traditional scanner. But with this document scanner, you can adjust the frame of the scan by tapping a bit away from the magnifying glass in each corner and then dragging. You can also do more than scan a document with this feature.

Markup Your Scanned Documents

With Apple’s markup tools, you can highlight, handwrite, cut out and move sections, and add a text box, shape, or arrows to your documents. You can even add your signature to it.

Here’s how:

Step 1: While your scanned document is still open, tap on the Share button in the upper-right corner of your screen.

Step 2: Tap the Markup button.

Step 3: Select the tool you want to use.

Step 4: Tap on More Tools icon if you want to add a shape, text box or signature.

Step 5: Markup your document.

Step 6: Tap Done when you are finished.

The scanned document will save all of the markup changes you made.

Convert Your Scans Into PDF

If you want to save your scanned document as a PDF, you can convert all pages into one PDF from the Notes app.

Step 1: Tap the Share button in the upper right corner of your screen.

Step 2: Tap on the Create PDF button.

Step 3: Tap the Share button in the bottom left corner.

Step 4: Choose any app to share your PDF to.

Share Your Scanned Documents to Another App

If you want to share your scanned document to a different app, you don’t have to turn it into a PDF form. In fact, the scan itself is a PDF. So, when you share it, it will already be configured as a PDF for you.

Step 1: With your scanned document still open, tap the Share button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Select whichever app you plan to use in sending the document to or share it via.

Step 3: Complete the process of sending or sharing the document.

You can now easily share your scan to different apps!

Deleting a scanned document on iPhone

If you’ve accidentally scanned the same document twice, or just want to try it again after saving one, you can delete a single scan without having to delete an entire document.

Step 1: With the scanned document open, swipe either to the left or to the right and select the scan you want to delete.

Step 2: Tap the Trash button in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Tap Delete scan.

Doing this process will only delete a particular scanned page you’ve selected. If you want to delete the entire document, just delete the note.
